Conventional truck and shovel open pit mining methods are used at Kalgold.The ore is trucked to the the Kalgold plant which has a capacity of 1.6Mt/a. In 2016 the operation underwent a significant plant refurbishment.
Kalgold mine is a gold mine of marginal grade making the planning and operation of the mine quite challenging to. sustainably and profitably extract the ore from a bifurcated orebody of varying width. ABGM also completed resource to reserve conversions on an annual basis for the operation.
Kalgold is an open pit mining operation close to Mafekeng in North West Province. The mine, which accesses gold-bearing ore in a banded ironstone formation in a shear zone within the Kraaipan Greenstone Belt, has the Kalgold CIL Plant on site. In FY09, Kalgold employed 468 people – 233 employees and 235 contractors.
